General description

The search engine generates indexes, makes them searchable and presents the results to the presentation layer via API.

Software used

swissbib currently provides two search engines:

  • FAST ESP 5.2 is currently and until the first quarter of 2012 the standard search engine of swissbib
  • Lucene/SOLR is the upcoming standard - the development of the index design is done in close cooperation with IDS Basel/Bern

Functionality covered

To provide the service mentioned above it delivers ranking, clustering and filtering. With these main functionalities it makes use of the data prepared by the data preparation layer, for example it uses the FRBR strings to group the data in manifestations of a work (i.e. editions or translations).
